Celebrating the spirit of childhood, U Turn Foundation organized Children’s Day event at Town Hall Dehradun. The objective of the event was to spread awareness on problems of girl child and showcasing the talent of less privileged section of Dehradun.
The event was inaugurated by a folk dance by performers of Mahila Jagaran Samiti lead by Mrs. Sashi Raturi. Next performance was a play by Sambhav Natak Manch, ‘Kya Hai Meri Pehchaan’. It was a soulful and insightful performance on the issues faced by girl child in our society mainly foeticide and gender discrimination.
The last performance was a satire play ‘Andher Nagari Smart Raja’ by the children of Any Body Can Project. Any Body Can Project is an initiative by U Turn Foundation to harness talents of children of neglected section of Dehradun through performing arts. The performance was completely enjoyed by the audience and town hall was full of sound of laughter. The comedy play was directed by Manoj Ranswal.
During the occasion Chief Guest, Dr. Linthoi Akhoijam, Child Psychologist presented certificates to the volunteers of U Turn Foundation. While addressing the audience, she talked about giving exposure, confidence and platform to help these children become part of mainstream. She also applauded the efforts of U Turn Foundation for giving a positive influence to these children’s lives.
The child performers were felicitated on the occasion by President of U Turn Foundation, Hemant Nav Kumar. In his speech, Hemant Nav Kumar appreciated the team efforts of U Turn Foundation and its volunteers for making the event a success. He also emphasized on the hands on experience to be given to the under privileged children to equip them for over all development.
At the end of the event Jaya Kumar, Vice President, UTF thanked the audience and honourary guests for joining in the Children’s Day Celebrations
